Objective 3.04 Understand products and materials for residential design.
Essential Questions: 1. What are considerations for choosing products and materials used for interior treatments? 2. How are calculations made to determine material costs? 3. How does lighting impact product decisions in interior design?
Warm-up: Group discussion based on scenario teacher gives you.
Presentation of Information: Use the TEXTILES powerpoint to gather information that enables designers to make wise textile decisions. Write your notes in your notebook using an outline form.
Activities: Get in a group of 3 people. Each person will (1.) choose a room in a house and (2.) list all the textiles that would be found in that room. Example: Kitchen/Dining room would include towels, drapes, oven mitts, placemats, tablecloth, etc. You should also consider rugs and carpets also. (3.) indicate what fiber would be appropriate for the textile and (4.) list any appropriate textile consideration. (Texture, durability, colorfastness, flame-resistance, antimicrobial, soil or stain resistance.). Once everyone has completed their room, merge your documents into one Google doc. Each student should then review each of the rooms and add at least one comment per room on something they agree with and why or disagree with and why.
